Security in Spain

If you own a home in Spain, for permanent living or for holidays, you will have considered security measures of some kind. Those who are considering buying Property in Spain have many options for your Security in Spain, here are some of them:

Alarm systems

An alarm system can be anything from basic to all singing and dancing. There is something for everyone’s budget and whatever system you can afford is an improvement on no system at all. Basic alarm systems can include a key-fob type device to switch the alarm on and off and the alarm box itself emits a loud noise to deter potential burglars. A more advanced system comes with a coded keypad to turn the system on and off and can be wired up to a security company or the police who will come out if the alarm is tripped. Do bear in mind that you can be fined for “false alarms” if the police have been called out unnecessarily.

Security cameras

Cameras can be used alone or alongside alarm systems to enhance your home security. A basic CCTV camera can be attached to a recording device or a hard drive in your home to record images inside and outside your property. A more expensive system can be installed which can send images to an external source linked to a security company for 24 hour security coverage.

Security bars (rejas)

A basic on most Spanish houses are bars on the windows and doors. If your home doesn’t have these, they are an affordable way to add security and means you can have windows and doors open day and night in the hot Spanish summers.

Security blinds

There are manual and automatic blinds available depending on your needs. Again most Spanish houses built recently are already equipped with these, which you can open manually from inside your home. Once they are shut it makes your windows difficult to access from the outside plus they have the added bonus of being a sun-shade too! For homes that may be empty for part of the year, and for shops and businesses, you can also buy the more industrial automatic security blinds.

Of course the type of security measure you need will depend on factors such as the type of property you own, the environment it is in and how often you are there. Keeping your property, your family and your belongings safe should be high on the list of anyone’s priorities.
