It's holiday time!

As the weather warms up here in Spain, our thoughts turn to planning our next getaway.  Whether it’s a few days in a city or a fortnight on the beach, the way that we book our holidays has changed over the last few years.

A recent report from ABTA (Association of British Tour Operators) looked at how holidaymakers booked both UK trips and holidays abroad in 2014.

Where do consumers book their holidays?

High street travel agents are still popular with 20% of people who booked an overseas holiday, but 29% used a holiday site such as Expedia and 34% of consumers questioned booked directly with an airline or hotel online.

What devices do they use when booking online?

PC - 93% *

Tablet – 18%

Mobile phone  - 17%

* Figures do not total 100 as consumers were asked about all holidays booked and many booked more than one holiday using more than one method.

A PC is seen as the most secure method, with tablet being the way to save time. Consumers commented that using a phone was seen as less secure and slower.

Where do they look for inspiration?

More than 40% of those surveyed said that general Internet research was a source of ideas, with social networking sites at 18% and travel review sites at 27%.  Recommendations from family and friends still feature strongly at 34%.

What else matters to holiday makers?

These have not changed since the last survey in 2013 – safe accommodation standards, financial protection in the event of a company folding and protection via ATOL and ABTA.

So it would seem that yet another area of our lives has been changed because of the Internet, and it means that we all need to think about how we promote our services and products.  If you are a business that wants customers to find you online, then is THE resource for you.  Don’t get left behind by your competitors and don’t get missed by potential customers.  The business directory is the newest in Spain and can help you to connect with the English-speaking expat community.
